Problems in Church Growth or Health?

  • Is Jesus Christ the center of all preaching, teaching and church activities?

  • Is biblical prayer a priority?

  • Is God’s sovereignty upheld without asterisks?

  • Is the preaching expository?

  • Are the songs of worship to God or are they adopted from the world in musical beat and feeling?

  • Are the lyrics to the songs scrutinized for any man-honoring worship or false teachings?

  • Does the church service have a sense of solemnity and reverence or does it have the appearance of a happy hour or coffee shop in the mall by the attendant’s laughter, dress styles and drinking vessels?

  • Is salvation taught as an act solely of the Triune God of the Bible or is it taught that man can overpower God’s willingness to save?

  • Is any evangelistic Gospel message preached with an easy-believism tune or is the depravity of man and repentance a part of it?

  • Is it assumed that everyone who listens to the preaching is saved by grace?

  • Are there even any evangelistic sermons preached throughout the calendar year?

  • Do lost visitors leave with a feeling of conviction from the preaching or do they think the preacher was “cool?”

  • If someone claims to be a new regenerate do they have to attend baptism classes before being scripturally baptized?

  • Are there only scheduled baptisms per year?

  • If discipline is ever an issue is it only an act of rhetoric or is it fulfilled according to scripture?

  • Are women allowed, in any way, to teach men or lead men in song worship, prayer meetings or Sunday school classes?

  • Are people allowed to publicly give salvation testimonies during church services?

  • Does the church leadership yoke in any fashion in an ecumenical manner or service to local churches that may be misinterpreted as compromising or “no different” to on-lookers?

  • Is there serious follow-up/visitation to visitors?

  • Does the church offer literature, i.e. books, tracts, etc. that promote or endorse “famous” pastors or evangelists who are apostate or teach false doctrines?

  • Does the church allow, encourage or remain silent on New Age issues creeping into the church disguised as Christian like “Christian” yoga, contemplative prayer, holistic health, etc.?

  • Is there protective discernment in the church leadership?

  • Are the gifts of the Spirit biblically understood and encouraged?

  • Is Bible prophecy ignored or minimized?

  • Are the people kept on a diet of “spiritual” milk?

  • Do people attend church because it is what they do?
